ARC Fertility Releases Key Findings on Fertility Treatments at ASRM Annual Meeting

by | Nov 6, 2015 | Press Releases

New studies analyze impacts of national and regional social and economic differences, doctor-patient communication, and digital information on treatment selection and frequency

Saratoga, CA (November 4, 2015) ARC Fertility, a pioneer in innovative fertility treatment options, today announced the findings from new studies on key factors influencing the frequency, selection and success of fertility treatment methods from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s (www.asrm.org) 2015 Annual Meeting.

“The research we conducted in cooperation with other leading institutions shows a direct correlation between a number of factors on when, where and how women select reproductive treatments,” said Dr. David Adamson, CEO and Chairman of ARC Fertility and co-author of the studies. “We believe these insights can help promote best practices in reproductive health and assist patients and their physicians in making the best choices that provide the most optimal outcomes.”

ARC Fertility and its research partners selected the ASRM Annual Meeting as the venue for announcing these research conclusions because it is the premier reproductive conference meeting of the year. Key findings from the studies include:

  • More disposable income and greater access to insurance subsidies across different countries and regions can have a significant impact on access, aggressiveness and success for assistive reproductive technologies;
  • Doctors and patients often begin the conversation late in the treatment cycle about which embryo transfer method to use, resulting in a lower selection of the recommended Single Embryo Transfer (eSET) method and increasing the chance of multiple pregnancies and the associated risks;
  • Patients in the Midwest are less likely to choose eSet treatment and patients in both the Midwest and Southeast are less likely to choose Multifetal Reduction Treatment than in other regions of the U.S., possibly due to a range of factors including education, socio-cultural attitudes and access to treatment;
  • More than 75 percent of patients are relying on mobile technology like smartphones and tablets for information about fertility treatments, meaning that physicians need to ensure they are including these channels in their communications with patients.

Collaborators in the development of the studies included researchers from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, and Fertility Physicians of Northern California, and Progyny.
