What is Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS)?

by | Aug 1, 2014 | FAQs, FAQs - Fertility

A condition that results from over stimulation of the ovary during ovarian (OS) .About 10% to 20% of women experience mild OHSS because the ovaries are enlarged, causing them to be painful and sensitive to pressure. There are many different ways to manage OHSS: reducing the dose of gonadotropin stimulation, bed rest, cancellation of the in-vitro-fertilization (IVF) cycle or the embryo transfer. Severe OHSS occurs in less than 1% of women undergoing OS and may require hospitalization.
