The 19th annual National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW) commenced this week.

Infertility affects 7.3 million americans. NIAW is a movement to raise awareness about infertility as well as to present the opportunties that are available to couples going through infertility and its related conditions.

Hundreds of educations events are held throughout the country during this week. Additional information might be available at your fertility clinic.

Dr. Susan Conway M.D. M.P.H. a fertility specialist at Georgia Reproductive Specialist weighs the pros and cons of tubal reversal versus IVF.

Dr. Conway earned her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. She also holds a Masters of Public Health in epidemiology and a Masters of Medical Science in clinical microbiology from Emory. Her obstetrics and gynecology residency training was completed at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and she completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Fletcher Allen Health Center at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. During her fellowship, Dr. Conway’s research interests included the immunology of endometriosis, early pregnancy loss and ectopic pregnancies.

Before joining Georgia Reproductive Specialists, Dr. Conway practiced at the Center for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and the Center for Reproductive Medicine of New Mexico.

She is a member of both the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology, a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She now focuses primarily in fertility and assisted reproduction.

Dr. Conway enjoys literature, dogs, gardening, hiking, skiing and gourmet cooking.

The third annual San Diego Fertility Expo is being held October from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to celebrate National Infertility Awareness Week and raise money for the non-profit fertility association RESOLVE.

 

This FREE event, which will be held at International House Great Hall at UCSD, located at 9500 Gilman Dr, 0550, will include several booths, with topics and representatives including Reproductive Endocrinologists, Fertility Acupuncture, Nutrition for Fertility, Fertility Yoga, Surrogacy and Adoption.
