Anthony N. Wakim, MD is associate professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and the associate director of Clinical Operations for the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, as well as medical director of Assisted Reproductive Technology (IVF) at Magee-Womens Hospital.
He received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and completed his internship and residency at the University of Maryland Hospital. He completed a fellowship at the University of Louisville Hospital. Before joining Magee, Dr. Wakim was director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Allegheny University Hospitals, and has been affiliated with the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo as associate professor and the chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
Dr. Wakim is board certified in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine; the American Medical Association; the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology; the Endocrine Society; and is president of the Pittsburgh Ob/Gyn Society. He is chair of the abstract committee for the American Society of Reproductive Surgeons. Dr. Wakim has been published in several medical journals including Operative Gynecology; Human Reproduction; the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics; and the International Journal of Fertility; and Fertility and Sterility.
Dr. Wakim’s clinical practice focuses on infertility and in vitro fertilization. He has participated in multiple national and international studies that concentrated on the safety and efficacy of drug formulation for the induction of ovulation in ART patients. He is currently directing a study comparing different ovulation induction protocols in women who are “low-responders,” or difficult to stimulate ART patients. Dr. Wakim’s other research interests include the effect of thyroid disorders on fertility and alternate methods for increasing embryo implantation.
