Joseph S. Sanfilippo, MD is vice chairman of Reproductive Sciences in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Magee-Womens Hospital and professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. He is responsible for training many of Magee's medical students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Sanfilippo graduated from the University of Health Sciences, the Chicago Medical School and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at State University of New York-Upstate Medical Center at Syracuse. He completed his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Louisville where he also served on the faculty as professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and president of the medical staff at Norton Hospital in Louisville. Prior to joining Magee, he practiced at Allegheny General Hospital and was the James and Marilyn Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine.

He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He has edited several textbooks in the field of laproscopic surgery and is actively involved in research that focuses on surgical techniques, menopause, and oral contraceptives.

Dr. Sanfilippo's areas of interest include infertility, adolescent gynecology, and minimally invasive surgery. He is a member of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (IVF) team.
